Overlook Technology is my one man, freelancing business. I'm the VP of a small software company by day, but occasionally work on freelance client projects, develop DotNetNuke modules and develop my own portals by night.
I like to think my approach to projects for my clients is one of technology leveraged experience. Experience because I've worked for super huge software companies and implemented complex ERP, MRP and CRM systems for Fourtune 500 companies. Leveraged, because I've realized that all of the skills that made me expensive in the past and kept me out of smaller projects no longer represent the value proposition they once held for clients.
Open source projects like DotNetNuke have changed the the way I develop sites for my clients. By leveraging a powerful content management solution (CMS) from DNN I can focus on what the client is trying to accomplish with their sites, rather than how are we going to make everything work.
The open source market allows me to handle 90% of my client's needs with out of the box solutions on DNN. By combining core DNN functionality with a growing library of thrid party modules and skins client expectations can be delivered quickly and cost effectively. If a client needs something more than a "packaged" skin or module then I can work in a "semi-custom" mode by modifying existing skins or code, or create a custom, one off module for a specific client need.
This typically translates into lower cost solutions for my clients, that take a week or two to implement instead of months and the outcome is more predictable than before and I know that the deliverables to the client will exceed their expecations.
