Deklarit on Vista

So now I have Vista installed, Visual Studio and SQL Server are playing nicely and I have working DotNetNuke projects. Last step, install Deklarit.

I've been using Deklarit (www.deklarit.com) for years now to do everything from quick database apps and utilities to ground up CRM systems and DNN Modules.  If you've never used Deklarit before I would highly recommend visiting their site, trying out the software and reading their whitepapers.

DK is essentailly a code generator.  But unlike many code generators it installs within the Visual Studio IDE, creates highly organized, normalized and performance oriented data models and all underlying data access layers and business objects.  It even has a scripting engine for UI generation for ASP.Net, VB.Net and even mobile apps.

So I've become quite comfortable using it for my application and module development so getting it running in Vista was a must have item.

First off, I have to admit that I made a mistake and just installed the version I already had on my machine (4.1.1) by double clicking the .msi file.  When things didn't work, I checked out the DK forums and found out that you have to install 4.1.2 using a command prompt running as Administrator.  [DK is working on a fix for this but at the time of this writing this was the published work around]

So I set off to uninstall 4.1.1 but I got the following error message during the uninstall:

Error 1721.  There is a problem with this Windows Installer package.  A program required for this install to complete could not be run.  Contact your support personnel of package vendor.

After trying about ten ideas, all of which failed, I tried running the 4.1.1 .msi from an Admin Command prompt..and selected "uninstall" from the setup options and it finally uninstalled.

So, installing 4.1.2 was pretty easy.

Simply opened a Command Prompt as Admin navigated to my DK412.msi file and ran it.  DK installed and everything is working in Visual Studio now.
