A Very Nice DNN Registration

A big topic of discussion around some of the DNN forums lately has centered on the DNN registration process and how much it sucks.  A few vendors offer solutions to a core registration form that’s so ugly only a developer could love [or use] it.

Dynamic Registration from DataSprings is one, more recently Active Modules included a slick a sign up wizard with Active Social.  Both solutions offer very good alternatives to the core registration process and allow a DNN designer the flexibility to control the steps, look and layout of the process – something that is especially key on a consumer oriented site.

Today I ran across a DNN site designed by Engage that had what was one of the best looking and functioning profile registration processes I’ve seen yet.  The site, a promotional contest site for tobacco breaks up the sign-up process into four easy steps.

Step One: Locate the User

Step Two: Get the DNN Goods

Step Three: Get Contact Info and Ensure You Are Human

Step Four: Profile and Confirmation

RegStep4

I think you could probably get this down to two or three steps, but the point is that the registration process needs to guide a user toward becoming a member (instead of turning them away).
